Missouri Southern soroptimist
Scholarship

Through Soroptimist's Live Your Dream Award, clubs assist women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills, and employment prospects. Recipients of these awards, many of whom have overcome enormous obstacles including poverty, domestic violence, and drug and alcohol abuse, may use the awards to offset any cost associated with their efforts to attain higher education, such as books, childcare and transportation.

The recipient(s) will receive a cash award from Soroptimist International of Joplin to be used as outlined above and will become eligible for additional cash awards at other levels of the organization, including three $10,000 finalist awards from Soroptimist International of the Americas.

Women interested in applying must submit an application and two (2) references. The deadline to apply is November 15.

Soroptimist International of Joplin

soroptimist ruby award

Soroptimist International of Joplin offers a Foundation scholarship each semester for a woman who is currently enrolled or attending classes at Missouri Southern State University.

Eligible candidates may apply for this scholarship on Missouri Southern State University's Foundation office or on their website.

The Soroptimist Ruby Award acknowledges non-Soroptimist women who, through their personal or professional activities, are making extraordinary efforts on behalf of other women or girls. This award gives the club and the entire organization the opportunity to say “thank you” and encourage others to explore ways to assist women.

The Soroptimist Ruby Award recipient should be a woman who:

Has worked to improve the lives of women and girls;
Has had a significant impact on the lives of women and girls;
Inspires and encourages other women.

Examples include spearheading an effort to open a domestic violence shelter, starting a mentoring program for at-risk girls, or lobbying companies to provide on-site childcare.

This award is named in honor of  Ruby Lee Minar, the first Federation President.  A ruby is a gemstone, also associated with wisdom, importance, vitality, strength, power and love - all words embodying our award recipients.

The deadline for nominations is May 26.
